Harry Potter and the National Socialists
 I saw Chamber of Secrets today and was pleased that the film did not downplay the most adult theme in Rowland's series: the plan of Voldemort and his loyalists to exterminate the "Mud Bloods," those wizards and witches of Muggle parentage.
The signature members of Valdemort's camp, Draco Malfoy and his father Lucius, are as blond as Siegfried. They employ a racially charged vocabularly, referring to themselves as "pure blood" and to the mixed-blood students with denigrating epithets like "filthy mud blood." Hardly disguised, anti-Semitism is what makes the villains in Harry Potter horrific. Rowland's source for Voldemort's racial program is clearly Hitler and, as the plot of Chamber of Secrets makes clear, Harry and his friends are confronting what is little short of a kind of Holocaust.
