Southern Heritage <cough>
It seems as if everywhere I look I find officials of the Sons of Confederate Veterans making new idjit remarks to whatever reporter they can collar. Can you say "publicity hounds"? Sure you can. Here's the latest, courtesy of today's New York Times: Georgia Gov. in a Pickle Over Flag Pledge. Kinda sad about Georgia's SAT scores.
A fact not mentioned in the Times story but nonetheless relevant is that the Georgia state flag under discussion was adopted only in 1956, as a symbol of the state's resistance to integration and civil rights. That's the "dishonored heritage" these crypto-segregationist nitwits are whining about.
I found reason to write about Neo-Confederates yesterday, too. And as I mentioned: don't miss the poetry. It's beyond awful.

My Doppelgänger
Even minor celebrities get creepily gushing fan pages. In this case, the celebrity shares my name, and his fans want my URL. Boston Red Sox pitcher Tom Davey, while playing for the Toronto Blue Jays in 1999, earned this stalker-style tribute site from a spelling-challenged admirer named Diane. Oddly, the site boldy links to my own dormant Web site at www.tomdavey.com with the claim that a new tribute site to the other Tom Davey is located there. Meanwhile, a Google search lists me as the #2 Tom Davey, and the Red Sox pitcher as #1. Can't wait for the guy to retire. That's me in upper left, and that's the pretender on the right.
